MAR. 03 (SAT) HONOLULU {REVISED 06/02/11}

Leave Honolulu Int’l Airport via Japan Airlines flight.  Lunch and a Snack will be served aboard the flight.  FREE MOVIES AND DRINKS.  

MAR. 04 (SUN) HAKATA (FUKUOKA)    HAKATA EXCEL HOTEL TOKYU

Arrive at Nagoya, Narita or Kansai Int’l Airport.  After clearance of government formalities, transfer to a domestic connecting flight to Fukuoka Airport.  After arrival in Fukuoka by bus to the hotel in Hakata the biggest city in Kyushu. Hotel is located near the down town Nakatsu Area, good for shopping and eating.   


MAR. 05 (MON) HAKATA (FUKUOKA)                                             HAKATA EXCEL HOTEL TOKYU

Visit Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, the first and most important of several hundred shrines dedicated to Sugawara Michizane as the “God of Scholarship”.  The shrine will be filled with “Ume Blossoms” (Plum) around this time of season (depending on the climate).  Next catch a boat to Nokonoshima Island (10 minutes ride), a fascinating island accessible from Fukuoka City.  Enjoy walking in the peaceful Park with small alley lined houses which has a style designed to be early Showa Period. Nanohana (Rapeseed Flower) or Narcissus should be blooming. “The contrast of these flowers with the blue of Hakata Bay is just magnificent”!  Go back to the hotel and there should be enough time to shop at Kawabata Shopping Mall, a 0.2 mile (1,312 feet) long covered mall with various stores such as a Tea Store, Kimono Store, Cutlery Store, etc.  Our hotel faces the Naka River where at night a lot of “Yatai” (Stalls) line the river bank and local people enjoy drinking and eating “Pupu”!  


MAR. 06(TUE) KUMAMOTO                                                              HOTEL NIKKO KUMAMOTO

Proceed to Saga Prefecture.  Visit a Yokan (a thick jellied dessert made of red bean paste) Shop where you can sample Yokan and view a small museum displaying old equipment that was used to make Yokan. Yokan is one of the traditional sweets that represent Japan and Saga’s “Ogi Yokan” is a historically old and very highly regarded brand.  Then go to Ushio Bairin (Ume Forest), which has been known as, “The Best Ume Flower Viewing Place” with 13,000 Ume Trees lining the area since the end of the Edo Period (middle of 19th century).  Annually Ume Blossoms bloom around this time of the season.  Then head to Kumamoto, an old castle town blessed with an abundance of nature.  Our hotel is located close to a Department Store and Shopping Mall with a ¥100 Yen Shop, etc. where you can enjoy “Holo-Holo after hotel check in.


MAR. 07 (WED)AOSHIMA                                                           AOSHIMA PALM BEACH HOTEL (ONSEN) ♨  

Visit the Suizenji Park, a spacious Japanese Style Landscape Garden which features a crystal-clear pond and pine trees.  Enjoy strolling along a circular path and view the changing scenery.  It will be the season when Ume Flowers bloom in the garden (depending on the climate).  Next visit Kumamoto Castle, called “One of the Three Greatest Castles in Japan”.  In 2008, this castle was ranked as the No.1 popular castle out of 48 castles in Japan.  The Honmaru Goten (the Lord Palace) was completed and opened to the public in 2008.  You will see the gorgeous room with fancy painted screens and a fully lacquered and gold adorned roof.    Our hotel is a popular resort hotel overlooking the ocean.  Soak and Relax in the Onsen Hot Spring Bath and Roten Buro (Open Air Bath) with beautiful ocean scenery.    


MAR. 08 (THU) NOBEOKA                                                                HOTEL MERIEGES NOBEOKA    HOTEL MERIGE NOBEOKA

Visit Aoshima Island, a tiny island connected with the mainland by a 985 ft. bridge and wavy rock formations called “Oni-no-Sentakuita” (the Ogre’s Washboard), draw striped patterns which show-up at low tide and are designated as a “National Special Natural Monument.  Next, drive through Horikiri Pass, “One of the Best Observation Roads” with a commanding view of the grandeur of the Hyuga-nada Sea.  There are 8,000 Cherry Trees planted along the road.  We may see the early-blooming Cherry Blossoms (If timing is right).  Later proceed to Hyuga City facing the beautiful Hyuga-nada Sea.  Visit Hyuga Cape with its many exposed rocks designated as the “Nippo-Kaigan Quasi-National Park”.  Umagase at the tip of the cape is a precipitous cliff of pillar-like rocks, towering as high as 230 feet, and commands an excellent view of the waves breaking against the rocks.    


MAR. 09 (FRI) IMABARI                                                                       IMABARI KOKUSAI HOTEL (ONSEN)♨  

In the morning, catch a Ferry (2 hours 20minutes) to Shikoku Island, smallest of Japan’s four principal islands.  It abounds in places of great tourist interest.  Upon arrival  head to the capital city of Ehime, Matsuyama to visit  Hatada Tart Factory, a well known brand of “Tart” (Roll Cake with Rich “Anko” inside) representing Shikoku’s Omiyage.  You can try a sample also.  Then go to Imabari where our accommodation is located.  Our hotel is a nice city hotel with an Onsen Roten Buro (Open Air Bath with Hot Spring Water).                                                          


MAR. 10 (SAT)KOCHI        KOCHI NEW HANKYU HOTEL

Imabari is the #1 producer of towels in Japan (Nearly 60%).  Using only the highest quality of raw materials, the towels are highly praised as to its comfort, reliability and safety.  Visit the Towel Museum to see the process of making towels and a display of many types of towels with unique designs.  You can also purchase the many different types of high quality towels made with Imabari Method.   Then to Niihama to visit Besshi Copper Mine which actually had been operating from 1691 to 1973.  We will ride on a miner train and walk inside an actual mine with dolls of miners showing how hard the work used to be.  Then go to Kochi, a town situated at the foot of Kochi Castle, built in the 17th Century and birth place of Sakamoto Ryoma.  Visit the Sakamoto Ryoma History Museum, consisting of 26 scenes with 180 realistic wax dolls about the life of Sakamoto Ryoma.   Our hotel is located close to Hirome Market, a big and bustling food mall.  A variety of foods are available including local specialties such as Katsuo (Skip Jack), Saba Sushi, Local Sake, etc.  


MAR. 11 (SUN)  TAKAMATSU                        ANA HOTEL CLEMENT TAKAMATSU

Enjoy all day Kochi sightseeing.  In the morning enjoy “Holo-Holo” at the Sunday Market. More than 500 stalls sell Kochi’s varied products, such as fresh foods, clothes, souvenirs, antiques etc.  It has more than a 300 year history.  Then proceed to Katsurahama Beach with a famous statue of Sakamoto Ryoma.  Also visit Tosa Dog Center (Museum about local Tosa Dog) to see the Tosa dog which you might have seen in “Sumo Costume”.    Later at lunch time we will try “grilling Katsuo no Tataki (Skipjack Sashimi)” which is a famous local food in Kochi.  Then go to Takamatsu City.  Our hotel is located near the Train Station and Supermarkets.  Enjoy “Holo-Holo” after check in.


MAR. 12 (MON) AWAJI ISLAND                                                           MINAMI AWAJI ROYAL HOTEL (ONSEN)♨   

Visit Yashima well known as a Genpei Battle Site (12th century).  On a clear day, you can enjoy the beautiful view of the entire Seto Inland Sea National Park.  Next visit Ritsurin Park, which is laid out to harmonize with the magnificent 1,400 Pine Trees which have been skillfully landscaped for centuries to twist into fantastic shapes.  Each step you take reveals a new view of the different tasteful aspect of the garden exquisitely arranged.  Ume Blossom and Azalea should be blooming if the timing is right.  Then cross the Onaruto Bridge (5,344 ft) to get to Awaji Island in the Eastern Part of the Seto Inland Sea between the islands of Honshu and Shikoku.   Enjoy the Uzushio (Whirring Tide) Viewing Cruise.  We will view the “World Level Whirlpool” in the Naruto Straits from a large yacht type pleasure boat.  The ocean current of the Naruto Straits is so complicated that the tide creates this whirlpool.  Later Relax in the Hot Spring Bath and Open Air Rock Bath (Roten Iwa Buro) at the hotel.     


MAR. 13 (TUE) KOBE                                                                             KOBE BAY SHERATON HOTEL & TOWERS

Go to the Joruri Theater to see a Joruri Puppet Show, which has a 500 year history and enjoy a breathtaking play using traditional dolls.  Next have fun “Strawberry Picking”!  Later visit a Senko (Japanese Incense) Factory.  Awaji Incense has been manufactured for 160 years and Awaji Island is the leader of “Aroma Culture in Japan”.  The top quality incense made from natural materials and fragrances.  Then drive over the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, known as the “World’s Longest Suspension Bridge (2.4 miles long) to the Port Town of Kobe.  Hotel is located at the center of Rokko Island and close to the Shopping Center, ¥100 Yen Shop, etc.


MAR. 14 (WED) KOBE                                                                   KOBE BAY SHERATON HOTEL & TOWERS

Go to Kobe Kacho-en with fabulous Begonia and lovely birds etc. where you can enjoy feeding the birds in the cage.  Later visit the AEON Shopping Center to enjoy shopping and Lunch before leaving Japan. Later return to the hotel to go “Holo-Holo” or Shopping near the hotel. {LUNCH & DINNER “Will Be At Your Own Expense “This Day}.

MAR. 15(THU) KOBE                         {ONLY BREAKFAST IS INCLUDED THIS DAY }

At check out time our agents will come around to tape and tie up the boxes and take the baggage’s to be checked in down.  Proceed to Kansai Airport in Osaka to catch a flight in the evening to Honolulu arriving the same day in the morning, MARCH 15, 2012 THURSDAY.
