Airline Questions

The group booking will be on Japan Airlines - https://www.jal.co.jp/ar/en/

If you would like to fly premium economy or business class or need interisland air, please contact us as soon as possible.

What do you need to make air reservations for me?

We need your passport information, and to know what airport you would like to fly out of (HNL, ITO - Hilo, OGG - Maui, LIH - Lihue, etc.) We also need to know what airline you would like to credit your miles to, and if you have a Known Traveler Number (TSA Pre-Check, TSA Global Entry, etc.) Your mileage and KTN can be applied to your ticket or changed at any time up until you check-in at the counter on departure day.

What kind of seat layout does the airplane have?

Most international flights on Japan Airlines will use the Boeing 787-9 (789). The seat layout is 2-4-2 for Economy, 2-3-2 for Premium Economy, and 1-2-1 for Business.

Occasionally for flights from HNL to NRT or KIX, JAL may use the Boeing 767-300ER (763). The seat layout is 2-1-2 for First Class, 2-2-2 for Class J, and 2-3-2 for Economy.

Domestic flights will usually use the Airbus A350-900 (359). The seat layout is 2-2-2 for First Class, 2-4-2 for Class J, and 3-3-3 for Economy.

Can I request custom air arrangements? Can you book me from mainland or foreign airports?

Yes, we can book you from majority of airports/airlines and book you earlier flights or later flights if you like to extend your stay in Japan. Please contact us for more information and a quote.

What airlines can I earn miles with when flying on Japan Airlines?

Japan Airlines is part of the oneWorld Alliance (Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, etc.) and is also partnered with Hawaiian Airlines. You can receive miles for this trip on any of these listed airlines: http://www.oneworld.com/members. The miles you receive will be up to your airline's policy, and the sites to check your mileage earnings are linked above.

Can you book my flights using miles?

No, our ticketing agent is not able to use your miles for booking.

Can I make my own air arrangements?

Yes, we will provide you with the flight for the tour. We only ask that you provide us with your air itinerary once you have finished booking. This will help us to coordinate with Yokohama Travel.

How does the group booking work?

11 months before departure, we can reserve seats on our chosen flight itinerary. Once we decide our tour dates and what cities our tour will start and end at, we reserve 30 seats on our chosen flights from Honolulu to Japan. This is to ensure that our customers will have seats on the plane.

**These seats are economy only from Honolulu. If you need interisland flights, an extended stay, premium economy or business class tickets we must book you separately from the group.**

For the group booking: 90 days before departure we must finalize how many seats we are saving. Once the customers are finalized, we must send in their information 45 days before departure. The tickets must be confirmed and booked by 30 days before departure.

Does baggage get interlined between Hawaiian Airlines and Japan Airlines?

Yes, if all the connecting flights are under one reservation, your baggage will be interlined. If you have two different tickets please ask the ticketing agent that checks you in if they can interline your bags. It will depend on the ticketing agent's clearances whether they can do it.

How many check-in and carry-on pieces are allowed?

The following graphic is for customers flying on economy or premium economy. Business class customers are allowed up to 3 pieces at 70lbs each. If you are a JMB or JGC member with status, please check this website for baggage allowances: https://www.jal.co.jp/jp/en/inter/baggage/checked/.

What are the differences between seating classes?

Premium economy and Business class will give you access to the Sakura Lounge.

Business class gets an additional luggage allowance - three pieces total at 70lbs each. For specific seat differences, you can check these pages on the JAL website:

Economy - JAL Economy Class

Premium Economy - JAL Premium Class

What is Japan Airlines' refund policy?

Japan Airlines' refund policy differs depending on the fare type of your ticket. The exact penalty fee amount will be listed for you on your flight itinerary and receipt. If you or a direct family member has a medical reason for cancelling your flights, please get a medical waiver from the medical professional involved in your care. Our ticketing agent can submit the paperwork to get you a full refund. Please let us know as soon as possible if you can not travel.

**There will be a processing fee of $75.00 per person.**

What are the rules for liquids at airport security?

🔵TSA Website

You are allowed to bring a quart-sized bag of liquids, aerosols, gels, creams and pastes in your carry-on bag and through the checkpoint. These are limited to travel-sized containers that are 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) or less per item. Placing these items in the small bag and separating from your carry-on baggage facilitates the screening process. Pack items that are in containers larger than 3.4 ounces or 100 milliliters in checked baggage.

Any liquid, aerosol, gel, cream or paste that alarms during screening will require additional screening.

Exemptions

Inbound International Flights

You may carry duty free liquids in secure, tamper–evident bags, more than 3.4 oz or 100 ml in your carry-on bag if:

The items inside the secure, tamper-evident bags must be screened and cleared. Any item that alarms or is unable to be screened will not be permitted in your carry-on bag. We recommend packing all liquids, gels, and aerosols that are over 3.4 oz or 100 ml in your checked baggage, even if they are in a secure, tamper-evident bag.

Liquids more than 3.4 oz or 100 ml not in a secure, tamper-evident bag must be packed in checked baggage.
