MAY. 30 (SUN) SHODOSHIMA ISLAND,
OLIVEAN SHODOSHIMA YUHIGAOKA HOTEL (ONSEN) ♨
This morning, embark on a scenic ferry journey through the sparkling waters and picturesque islands of Setonaikai National Park. Our destination is beautiful Shodoshima Island, affectionately known as the “Mediterranean of Japan” for its mild climate, peaceful coastal scenery, and thriving olive groves. As the birthplace of olive cultivation in Japan, this enchanting island offers an irresistible combination of natural beauty, distinctive local flavors, and fascinating traditions. Upon arrival, visit Shodoshima Olive Park, where century-old olive trees, fragrant herb gardens, and brilliant views of the Seto Inland Sea create a scene reminiscent of a Mediterranean island. Stroll along the picturesque pathways and capture memorable photos beside the park’s iconic Greek-style white windmill. You will also have time to browse an appealing selection of locally made olive products, including premium olive oil, salad dressings, cosmetics, and other island specialties. Next, discover the magical Angel Road, one of Shodoshima’s most romantic and photogenic natural wonders. At low tide, a golden sandbar mysteriously rises from the sea and connects the island with a series of small islets. If the tide and weather conditions permit, you may walk along this extraordinary pathway. Local legend says that those who cross Angel Road while making a heartfelt wish may have that wish granted. Our island experience continues with a visit to a Traditional Hand-Stretched Somen Noodle Factory. Shodoshima’s celebrated somen-making tradition has flourished for approximately 400 years. Watch skilled artisans demonstrate how the delicate noodles are carefully stretched by hand and dried to achieve their wonderfully smooth yet pleasantly chewy texture. MAY. 31 (MON) SHODOSHIMA ISLAND,
OLIVEAN SHODOSHIMA YUHIGAOKA HOTEL (ONSEN) ♨
Begin today’s adventure at Osaka Castle Remains Stone Memorial Park, where you will uncover another fascinating side of Shodoshima’s history. Recognized as part of a Japan Heritage story, Shodoshima is known as an “Island of Stone” because of its long tradition of stone quarrying. Following the destruction of Osaka Castle in 1615, enormous stones were quarried on Shodoshima and transported across the Seto Inland Sea for the castle’s reconstruction. At the park’s museum, discover historical tools, equipment, photographs, and documents illustrating how these massive stones were cut and transported centuries ago. You will also see approximately 40 unfinished “would-be Osaka Castle stones” that were abandoned before they could begin their journey to Osaka, remarkable reminders of the island’s connection to one of Japan’s most famous castles. Next, step back in time at the nostalgic Twenty-Four Eyes Movie Village. This beautifully preserved outdoor movie set recreates a peaceful Japanese village from the early Showa period and overlooks the scenic Seto Inland Sea. The beloved Japanese story Twenty-Four Eyes follows a schoolteacher and her first class of 12 students during the years leading up to World War II. Stroll through the charming replica village, including its wooden schoolhouse, traditional fishermen’s homes, village streets, seasonal flower fields, and cinema exhibits. The carefully preserved setting will make you feel as though you have traveled into Japan’s past while offering many wonderful opportunities for memorable photographs. Later, board the Kankakei Ropeway for a breathtaking journey above Kankakei Gorge, celebrated as one of Japan’s three most beautiful gorges. As the ropeway climbs, admire the dramatic cliffs, deep valleys, and extraordinary rock formations created by nature over millions of years. From the upper station, a magnificent panoramic view awaits you. Gaze across the rugged gorge toward the tranquil waters and beautiful islands of the Seto Inland Sea. The unforgettable combination of mountains, unusual rock formations, and peaceful ocean scenery makes Kankakei Gorge one of Shodoshima’s most spectacular natural treasures.

Historically, farmers used these horses to transport crops and supplies along narrow trails. The breed nearly disappeared in 1978; only six Noma horses remained. Conservation and breeding efforts at Nomauma Highland have helped preserve this important part of Imabari’s heritage. Today, visitors can meet these friendly horses and learn about their history and protection. Enjoy meeting these rare and charming animals while learning about the efforts being made to protect and preserve the breed for future generations. After returning to our hotel, enjoy additional leisure time at the Dogo Onsen Shopping Arcade.
